My car is packed and I'm ready to go.
I am beach bound.
Saying "Bye-Bye, Love You, See you soon!" to Harley and Don Barley.
I've got a huge box of CDs in the front seat to listen to as I drive towards the beach.
A box full of Willie, Motown, Country, Southern Rock and a whole lot of damned ol' Hippie music.
Remember? Those songs about peace and love?
Isn't it funny that we're still listening to that same music today that we were listening to back in the day?
Back in the day when we were protesting the war and marching for civil rights.
It was about more than the music then, it's about more than the music now.
But music has its own power.
Especially a lot of that damned ol' Hippie music.
So. I'll be singing along with Stevie, Grace, Janis, Tina, Aretha, Patsy, and the rest of the girls.
I'm going to choose to sing this trip - no news allowed.
Yes, it's called putting my head in the sand.
A break from the madness and the sadness can't be a bad thing.
I'm making one stop on the way to spend the night with friends and will continue my trip tomorrow.
Have I ever needed a beach trip more?
Probably, but they're all a balm for my sad and weary soul.
Have I ever needed a girlfriend week more?
